Well the barfly angle didn’t seem to harm Nico Matthews in his run for council, by all accounts his Albury Gold Cup efforts are legendary in some quarters.

My idea is easier on the liver and is based on the polling results for Albury booths since 1999.

I think you’ve found the “shortcut onto Albury Council” Dave … being a barfly. It works a treat over here where being part of the furniture at a certain pub, perpetually pissed and even losing your license for refusing a breath test is no impediment to being elected Mayor. Smoking dope’s another pre-requisite too it seems.

Ed, I managed to finish the evening without seeing a hint of the alcohol fueled random violence that I was hoping for.

Ray, I swear it’s all Mrsdave’s doing. Perhaps she’s trying to send me into an early grave, or there’s a quid pro quo coming over the horizon. As for a run at council, I did that last time and I found that I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as being in the ‘back room’ of someone else’s campaign. I do believe that if someone was committed enough there’s a shortcut onto Albury Council that no-one has tried before, but I’m too lazy to go through with it and the down side to my theory is that if I’m right I’d have to be an Albury City Councilor for the next four years. Having a beard, however, is no impediment to being mayor of Albury.

Dave, what has sent you down this path of sheer decadence in the peaceful city of Albury? Are you perhaps grooming yourself for a run at council in the forthcoming elections? If so, you’re on the right track. Keep it up and you’ll be the Mayor for sure, beard or no beard. Cheers (oh, I shouldn’t say that until you feel better)
