There’s a wonderful irony in parenting, that we want to imbue our children with a strong moral code and yet we will tell them bald faced lies when it suits our purpose. We tell ourselves that the deceptions are for their own good, whether to entertain them or shield them, and that it is alright to hide the truth, despite the fact that one of the first morals that we try to teach toddlers is honesty. I love cars. I love driving them, I love reading about them, I think that they are one of the most impressive things in the modern age. What I don’t like are the marketing tossers who work for car companies who are mostly stupid, or liars, or both.
Today it’s BMW who’ve pissed me off as they are claiming that their new X6 is the world’s first 4WD coupe. Just one small problem with that, they’re completely and utterly wrong. In fact back in the mid 80s, over twenty years ago, Subaru sold a 4WD coupe in Australia called the Vortex and they’ve sold a succession of 4WD coupes ever since.
The BMW marketing droids deserve a slap in the face for peddling such nonsense and Automotive writers who slavishly accept car companies word as gospel so that they can keep their seat on the gravy train need to be slapped twice as hard.
When a conservative politician tells you that they’re concerned about the underprivileged, or people adversely affected by the budget don’t believe them for a second.
CHARITY workers again face being stripped of their family tax payments after the Opposition blocked budget legislation containing changes to salary-sacrificing laws.
Given the choice between helping people or using the last week of their Senate majority to frustrate the government, it should surprise no-one that the Coalition went with the latter option.
Don’t believe a single word from these weasels when they claim to care about “ordinary Australians”, they don’t give a shit about anyone. They don’t give a fuck about social equality, they don’t care if pensioners freeze or if carers starve, they’d rather throw tantrums about being kicked out of office than do anything to ensure people’s welfare.
So next time you see a clip of Brendan ‘Emo Man’ Nelson pleading for the welfare of one section of the community or another, just remember that his colleagues would throw them all under a bus if they thought they could get away with it.
Update: Unsurprisingly, this story doesn’t appear to be getting a run at all on news.com.au or The Australian’s web site.
I’m a big fan of Freecycle, an online organisation that uses local groups to reduce landfill usage by getting people to give away things that they no longer need rather than dumping them. While occasionally people spoil the system by trying to take every item under the sun, or by requesting ridiculously inappropriate give aways, usually accompanied by a sob story, for the most part it is a system that works well. However, even when it’s working well it has its share of little white lies about the quality of a give away item, or perhaps omissions about how much rust is in the free car parts on offer, but today I saw one that took the cake.
Let’s just take a look at this line by line shall we?
Our girls have outgrown some of their MFC stuff
I have no doubt that they have, but I’m betting that they’ve emotionally, rather than physically outgrown the stuff and the pack of losers that it represents.
Size 3 Jumper – has been through dryer so is on the small size
Size 0 summer jump suit
Previous attempts to destroy the clothes were unsuccessful.
There will probably be more
We got a fine after lighting the incinerator, but we need to get this shit out of our home.
Would like to go to real Melbourne supporter
As though there’s any such thing.
I realise that former Melbourne supporters are trying to purge the club from their lives, but I cannot condone using a community resource like Freecycle in the underhanded manner that Naomi has tried to today.
